On the evening of January 30, emergency rescue operations concluded in Sumy following the strike by a Russian “Shahed” drone on a residential building in the city's sleeping area. Rescuers recovered a total of nine deceased individuals from the rubble, and an additional 14 people sustained injuries.
This information was provided by the prosecutor's office of the Sumy region and Interior Minister Igor Klymenko.
“The number of fatalities has risen to nine. For 19 hours, rescuers have been clearing the debris, retrieving bodies from the ruins. Thirteen individuals have been injured, including an 8-year-old girl,” Klymenko noted.
The regional prosecutor's office clarified that there are 14 injured individuals.
They also added that among the deceased are three married couples – a 74-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife, a 65-year-old man and his 64-year-old wife, a 61-year-old man and his 61-year-old wife, along with a 64-year-old and a 63-year-old man, and a 37-year-old woman.
According to local media outlet “Kordon.Media,” five of the injured have been hospitalized. Two of the wounded are in critical condition, as reported by journalists from the Sumy hospital.
A 17-year-old boy and an elderly woman are in intensive care. The boy underwent surgery during the night. Two other adults are suffering from moderate injuries.
Additionally, according to the police, two apartment buildings and over 20 vehicles have been damaged.
Law enforcement authorities have received 129 reports from local residents regarding the aftermath of the Russian shelling. The process of documenting Russia's war crime – a direct attack on civilians – is ongoing.
A mobile point of invincibility set up by rescuers continues to operate around the clock.
