The authorities in Romania have prepared a draft law that, if passed by parliament, will allow the military to shoot down drones that violate its airspace.

This is reported by Reuters.

The document stipulates that unmanned aerial vehicles, most commonly drones, can be destroyed, neutralized, or taken under control depending on the level of threat they pose. Destruction is considered the most drastic measure of influence.

NATO ally systems present in Romania may also participate in any actions in accordance with collective defense agreements.

The country's parliament will begin reviewing the draft law after it is approved by the government. It is currently in the public discussion stage.

Russian drones attacking Ukraine have previously violated Romanian airspace, which is a NATO member. In the Romanian border villages, the military constructed shelters for locals and began sending out attack notifications as early as last year.

The country's authorities "strongly condemned" such incidents.

It is worth noting that this year, several European officials urged their citizens to prepare for war. For instance, this advice was given by Sweden's Civil Defense Minister Karl-Oskar Bolin and former Commander of the Dutch Army Martin Wijnen.
