As a result of shelling by Russian military forces on October 24 in Kupiansk, Kharkiv region, more than ten civilians were injured, and one person lost their life.
This was reported by the National Police and the head of the local Regional State Administration, Oleg Synegubov.
For the attack, the Russians employed a guided aerial bomb.
The projectile struck an area near the local market in the morning. Consequently, a two-story building at the market was destroyed, and 12 trading kiosks, a kindergarten, residential houses, and an administrative building were damaged.
Initially, it was reported that seven civilians were injured, but later the number rose to nine. The injured sustained varying degrees of injuries, and one woman was rescued from the rubble in serious condition. Currently, four individuals are hospitalized.
At the scene, an investigative-operational group, forensic experts, and explosives technicians continue to work.
It is worth noting that September 2024 marked the month with the highest number of civilian casualties since the onset of the large-scale war. Previously, the highest number of deaths and injuries was recorded in the summer of 2024. Over three months, their increased by 45% compared to the same period beforehand.
The rise in casualties is attributed, among other factors, to the use of explosive weapons with a wide range by the Russian Federation in populated areas, such as guided aerial bombs.
