Russian occupiers likely killed an Australian prisoner of war who fought alongside Ukraine.

CNN and AP report this information, citing a press conference held by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Российские оккупанты, похоже, убили австралийского пленного, сражавшегося на стороне Украины.

Australia summoned the Russian ambassador following the revelation of information regarding the murder and torture of Australian prisoner of war Oscar Jenkins, who fought alongside Ukraine. If Jenkins' death is confirmed, the Australian government is prepared to take "the most decisive actions," stated the country's Prime Minister.

This was reported by CNN and AP citing a press conference by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

“We urge Russia to immediately confirm the status of Oscar Jenkins. We are seriously concerned,” the official noted.

Albanese did not specify what he meant by “decisive actions.”

The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated that Russia “is verifying the information about the detained Australian citizen.” According to her, the Russian side will disclose “any facts if they exist.”

In December 2024, a video appeared on Russian Telegram channels showing Russian military personnel interrogating and beating, presumably, Australian Oscar Jenkins – in the footage, he is seen with his hands tied.

Jenkins is a 32-year-old biology teacher, who claims to live in both Australia and Ukraine.

Later, information was released that the military's body was found in the same area where the filming took place.

A comrade of the slain Australian, known by the call sign Gamp, told ZMINA that Jenkins came to Ukraine to help Ukrainians fight against the occupiers.

“To be honest, he didn’t even care about payment, ammunition, or anything else. He came here to save Ukraine from Russia,” the soldier remarked.

He added that Jenkins was with four other soldiers when they were attacked by Russians. Three were killed, and one was injured. According to Gamp, Oscar was captured, tortured, and then executed. The serviceman mentioned that the occupiers have introduced a new rule: if foreigners are captured, they are executed as an example to others.

“Russians no longer take prisoners of war,” Gamp stated.

Media reports indicate that Jenkins joined the international brigade of the Ukrainian army, which has been in existence since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Prior to this, he worked as a teacher at a Chinese university.

It is worth noting that only in October and November of last year, law enforcement registered 13 criminal cases due to the shooting of more than fifty Ukrainian servicemen by the occupiers.
