A Russian soldier captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in December of last year admitted to executing a Ukrainian prisoner of war.
Video of his interrogation has come into the possession of “Suspilne”.
The captured Russian is a fighter from the 810th Separate Guards Order of Zhukov Brigade of the Russian Navy, stationed in occupied Sevastopol. Over the past three years, this group has fought in the Kherson and Kursk regions.
The Russian was taken prisoner a few days after committing the crime in December last year. In the video, the occupier states that he captured two members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, one of whom was severely injured. He was bound and laid face down on the ground.
“I contacted my commander of the 2nd platoon – 'Gyurza'. He ordered me to shoot the soldier, who had a shard in his leg. After that, I shot the soldier. I admit my guilt and am ready to face the punishment prescribed by law,” the Russian recounts.
Journalists from “Suspilne” previously identified one of the Russian soldiers with the call sign “Gyurza”. This refers to the commander of the sixth motorized rifle division of the Russian Federation, Marat Ospanov.
Currently, law enforcement has opened a criminal case regarding violations of the laws and customs of war, related to intentional murder. Investigators continue to identify everyone involved in the execution.
If found guilty by the court, the accused could face life imprisonment.
Recall that a Russian soldier being tried in Zaporizhzhia for the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war confessed to the crime.
Since August of last year, reports of executions of Ukrainian fighters by Russians have become significantly more frequent.
