Footage has emerged online that likely captures the execution of Ukrainian servicemen held in Russian captivity. The recording features orders for their execution, which may indicate a deliberate practice of executions by Russian military personnel.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Parliament's Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.
Initially, this video was disseminated by Russian military channels.
Lubinets emphasized that such actions violate international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention regarding the treatment of prisoners of war. In this regard, he appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross, urging them to increase pressure on Russia to compel it to cease such crimes.
Ukrainians can report any information regarding this incident to the Ombudsman’s “hotline” at 0 800 50 17 20. Each testimony will assist in documenting war crimes and holding those responsible accountable under international and national law.
It is worth recalling that in January 2025, the Ombudsman also informed the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross about another war crime committed by Russian forces, who executed six captured Ukrainian soldiers at the front.
The video, lasting over three minutes, shows a group of Russians approaching Ukrainian military positions. At that moment, Ukrainian soldiers are on the ground, unarmed, and offer no resistance. Concurrently, conversations among the Russians can be heard, instructing them to “lie down and shut up.”
Subsequently, the Russians executed at least six prisoners, though the video cuts off at what appears to be the moment of the execution of a seventh fighter. His fate is currently unknown.
In the video, part of the face of one member of the group who shot the unarmed prisoners is visible.
