In occupied Crimea, the “Krasnogvardeysky District Court” denied the request of the mother of human rights defender Riza Izetov, a Kremlin captive sentenced to 19 years in prison, to transfer him to a colony closer to home.
This was reported to “Crimean Solidarity” by lawyer Nazim Sheikhmambetov.
Hope Izetova suffers from cancer and is unable to visit her son. He is currently serving his unjust sentence in correctional colony No. 1 of the Republic of Sakha (Russia), which is over 9,000 kilometers away from the Izetov family's residence.
The defense of the political prisoner also provided documents indicating that the woman lacks the financial means for travel.
Despite everything, the “court” rejected the claim.
Recall that on March 10, 2022, the Southern District Military Court of the Russian Federation issued a guilty verdict against activists arrested in the case of the “second Simferopol group of Hizb ut-Tahrir.” The Crimean Tatar was accused of organizing the activities of the Islamic political party “Hizb ut-Tahrir,” which is banned in Russia but operates freely in Ukraine and other countries.
Izetov was sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment, with the first five years to be served in a high-security prison. The remainder of the sentence is to be served in a strict regime colony.
The court also imposed an additional one-and-a-half years of restriction of freedom after his release.
On March 28, 2023, Judge Sergey Vinnik of the appellate military court in the Moscow region city of Vlasikha upheld the verdict without changes.
Earlier, ZMINA reported that political prisoner Riza Izetov, unlawfully sentenced by an occupying court to 19 years of imprisonment, was sent to a punishment cell (SHIZO) in IK No. 1 of the Republic of Sakha starting December 6, 2024.
