In Russia, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Nikolai Efremov, a resident of the Donetsk region, to 16 years in a strict regime colony, accusing him of “preparing a terrorist act and treason.”
This was reported by the press service of the court.
Nikolai Efremov is 22 years old and was born in the village of Sedovo in the Donetsk region. He lived in Novoazovsk.
According to Russian authorities, in the spring of 2022, Efremov was allegedly recruited for cooperation via messaging app correspondence by an employee of the GUR. After that, he joined a “terrorist group” operating in the Donetsk region, specifically involved in the sabotage of vehicles used by local militia fighters.
From August 2022 to October 2023, Efremov reportedly collected information about the vehicles used by the occupying militia and passed it on to his handler. Under the instruction of a Ukrainian intelligence officer, on September 16, 2023, Nikolai was allegedly assigned to blow up a vehicle. For this purpose, he was sent instructional video materials on assembling and using homemade explosives, and in October, he was supposed to retrieve the relevant components from a cache.
Efremov was detained before he could carry out his plans, say Russian security forces.
The Russians convicted Efremov on four criminal charges: “participation in a terrorist organization,” “preparation of a terrorist act,” “illegal possession and transportation of explosives,” and “treason.”
In addition to imprisonment, the Russian court imposed a fine of 600,000 Russian rubles on the Ukrainian.
Recall that recently in the same Russian court, Maxim Timofeev was sentenced to 20 years in a colony for an alleged terrorist act at the Melitopol DEPOT.
Nearly one in five convicted for terrorism in Russia in 2023 is a native of Ukraine.
