On Saturday, February 8, at the summit in Madrid, leaders of far-right parties from the "Patriots for Europe" group welcomed the return to power of U.S. President Donald Trump. The summit was held under the slogan "Make Europe Great Again."
This was reported by Reuters.
Notably, the summit featured Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, leaders of France's National Rally Marine Le Pen, and Dutch PVV party leader Geert Wilders.
"Trump's tornado changed the world in just a few weeks. Yesterday we were heretics, today we are mainstream," Orban stated.
It was reported that all speakers at the event were against immigration, with many calling for a new "Reconquista."
The meeting was initiated by former Estonian Finance Minister Martin Helme, who spoke after a video address from Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
In particular, Orban accused Brussels of allegedly destroying Europe. He criticized the bloc for allocating funds to aid Ukraine and for the influx of migrants.
"Brussels bureaucrats have destroyed Europe. Because of Brussels, the European economy is slowly sinking. Because of Brussels, our money is being sent to Ukraine for a hopeless war. Through Brussels, Europe has been flooded with migrants," he wrote on social media platform X.
Moreover, Orban reiterated that it was allegedly Brussels that opened the gates and borders for the influx of migrants.
It is worth noting that "Patriots for Europe" was formed after the European elections in May 2024, consisting of 86 Members of the European Parliament from 14 countries, representing 19 million votes. Madrid was chosen as the location for the first official summit, allowing the group's president, Santiago Abascal, to host it.
Recall that Orban threatened to block EU sanctions against Russia next time. Subsequently, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned Orban of consequences if he blocked sanctions against Russia.
