The publication notes that Trump's statement came after a call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's advisor, Dmytro Litvin, for a “more substantial approach” from Kyiv's allies in resolving the situation.
These remarks were made against the backdrop of recent statements from Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg. He stated in an interview with Reuters that the U.S. insists on holding elections in Ukraine by the end of the year, especially if a ceasefire with Russia can be achieved in the coming months.
It is worth recalling that recently, Trump’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg, expressed hope to end the war in Ukraine “within months, not years.”
Additionally, Trump had previously indicated that his administration had already conducted “very serious” negotiations with Russia regarding the war in Ukraine, and that he and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin might soon take “significant” steps to resolve the conflict.
