According to Trump, the planned 25% tariff has been suspended, postponing its implementation until March 4, 2025, to allow for an additional assessment of Mexico's actions.

"In recognition of the measures taken by the Government of Mexico and to evaluate whether the threat described in Section 1 of this order has diminished, the additional ad valorem tariff of 25 percent is suspended and will not take effect before March 4, 2025, at 12:01 PM Eastern Time," the order states.

According to media reports, the pause allows U.S. officials to assess whether Mexico's steps are sufficient to resolve the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. It is noted that if the situation deteriorates, Trump may proceed with the imposition of tariffs.

As is known, the United States has also decided to suspend the introduction of new tariffs on imports of goods from Canada.

Recall that earlier Trump signed orders imposing tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. He also announced that the U.S. would soon impose tariffs on European goods.

In response, Canada has already imposed 25% tariffs on American goods. Meanwhile, the European Union promised a "decisive response" if Trump imposes tariffs on European products.
