Since February 24, 2022, 257 Russian military personnel have been reported as suspects in committing war crimes in Ukraine. Over nearly three years of full-scale war, indictments have been sent to court against 205 individuals. Additionally, 64 Russian military personnel have received guilty verdicts.
This information is outlined in a report published by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
It was also reported that 51 Russians have been identified as suspects in crimes of aggression (Article 437 of the Criminal Code). Indictments have been sent to court against 14 individuals, and one person has received a guilty verdict.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, in cases of sexual violence related to the war (SVPC), 20 Russian military personnel have been identified as suspects. Sixteen indictments have been sent to court, and three individuals have been sentenced to imprisonment.
Accountability has been enforced against 35 representatives of the Russian military command.
Furthermore, the Office of the Prosecutor General noted that since February 24, 2022, procedural guidance has been implemented for pre-trial investigations in a major criminal case regarding the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation, with the assistance of other individuals, in the aggressive war against Ukraine (Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), violations of its territorial integrity (Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and the commission of other related aggression crimes.
Overall, the prosecution is investigating four fundamental blocks of crimes related to Russian aggression:
We remind you that last year, Ukrainian courts issued 41 verdicts under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: violations of the laws and customs of war. Forty of these verdicts were issued in absentia.
