"Highly inappropriate." Why Scholz criticized the potential deployment of EU troops to Ukraine.

Politics annoy him with what he considers premature discussions.
"Совершенно неуместно". Почему Шольц выступил против отправки войск ЕС в Украину.

After an emergency summit of European nations concerning Ukraine held in Paris, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Ukraine must be capable of defending its democracy and sovereignty, and it needs its own military. He described discussions regarding the deployment of German troops in Ukraine as part of a peace solution as "quite premature," adding that it is currently "extremely inappropriate."

As reported by Welt, Scholz also called for additional flexibility in defense spending within the EU. In his view, supporting Ukraine necessitates separate funding.

"It is clear that our ongoing and necessary support for Ukraine can only be realized if we can decide to fund it separately," the Chancellor emphasized.

Regarding the potential deployment of German troops in Ukraine, Scholz believes that now is not the right time to consider this. According to him, it is currently "quite premature and entirely unsuitable for this discussion." The Chancellor expressed that he was "even a bit irritated" by these debates.

"Here, discussions are being held over the head of Ukraine regarding the outcomes of peace talks that never took place, which Ukraine did not agree to and was not at the table for, and about possible outcomes. This is extremely inappropriate. We do not know what the result will be," Scholz noted.

He stressed that Ukraine and Europe are not in a state of peace at the moment, stating, "we are in the midst of a war that is being waged brutally by Russia, which is being recklessly pushed forward." Therefore, he asserted that Ukraine must be capable of defending its democracy and sovereignty and possess a "strong military of its own."

"These matters are non-negotiable. And I believe it is essential for all of us to clearly understand this… For us, it is very clear: we will continue to support Ukraine, and it must and can rely on us," the Chancellor said, adding that there should be no "imposed peace."

It should be noted that these statements were made by Scholz following the meeting in Paris. On February 17, French President Emmanuel Macron invited leading European politicians to discuss Ukraine. In addition to Scholz, the heads of government from the UK, Italy, and Poland participated. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen were also present.

As reported by "Telegraph," according to the Financial Times, at this emergency meeting, European nations failed to reach an agreement on sending troops to Ukraine. The meeting also addressed peace negotiations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russia.
