Brigadier General Gennady Shapovalov has left his position as the commander of the Operational Command "South".
He announced this on the OK "South" Facebook page on February 4.

“I had the honor of being the commander of the troops of the Operational Command South – a powerful military team that has bravely and selflessly defended the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine on all fronts since the first days of the Russian-Ukrainian war,” Shapovalov wrote.
The general expressed his gratitude to his subordinates for their service and protection of Ukraine.
“I am convinced that you will continue to build on your achievements, fulfilling your military duty with honor and enhancing the glory of the Ukrainian army in pursuit of our victory,” he added.
Recall that Gennady Shapovalov was appointed as the commander of the troops of OK "South" in April 2024. He succeeded Major General Andriy Kovalchuk in this role.
On January 19 of this year, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Brigadier General Shapovalov would work with Ukraine's partners in Wiesbaden and coordinate security assistance.
