In the Russian Federation, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don will try public figure Vladimir Ananyev from occupied Crimea on "terrorism charges."
This is stated in a report by the Crimean Human Rights Group.
Vladimir Ananyev, originally from the Ivano-Frankivsk region, is known for his active civic stance in the occupied peninsula, engaging in legal and journalistic activities. He has defended the rights of landowners and believers of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
Ananyev is facing several charges under the Russian Criminal Code: illegal acquisition and possession of explosives and participation in the preparation of a terrorist act.
Last year, on February 5, he was detained along with Vladimir Bodnarenko and Oksana Shevchenko by the occupiers and accused of attempting to blow up a vehicle. They were charged with the illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, and transportation of explosive substances. Subsequently, in November 2024, an additional charge of "aiding in the preparation of a terrorist act" was added.
Human rights defenders note that 75-year-old Vladimir has been diagnosed with hypertension, a spinal hernia, and vision problems, requiring constant care and special medical treatment. Given the conditions of his detention, there is an objective threat to the man's life.
It is worth mentioning that an illegal court in occupied Crimea sentenced 56-year-old Yalta resident and former lawyer Vitaly Khomenko to 18 years in a high-security penal colony in absentia.
