Germany continues to update and expand its fleet of logistics vehicles under the agreement with Rheinmetall for the supply of 6,500 vehicles from the HX RMMV family by 2031. This time, the Bundeswehr has ordered 568 trucks worth 330 million euros.
Among the ordered vehicles are: 349 units of Unprotected Transportation Vehicles (UTF) UTF 5t (6x6) and UTF 15t (8x8) with payload capacities of 5 and 15 tons respectively, as well as 219 units of vehicles with interchangeable bodies, 121 of which will feature a protected cabin.
Thus, the average cost of one truck under this agreement amounts to 580,000 euros. According to the order, the UTF vehicles are expected to be delivered to the Bundeswehr in 2026, while the vehicles with interchangeable bodies will arrive as early as November of this year.
The order was placed within the framework of a flexible framework agreement for the supply of 6,500 vehicles by 2031, valued at 3.5 billion euros, signed in 2024. This agreement allows the Bundeswehr to make flexible orders for the required number of vehicles from 2024 to 2031.
Under this agreement, an order for 610 trucks worth 312 million euros was already placed in 2024, with 250 units delivered in that same year.
It should be noted that the UTF and vehicles with interchangeable bodies are based on a series of specially designed tactical military trucks HX RMMV produced by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV). Since they were specifically developed for military use, they possess high mobility and reliability even in off-road conditions.
The HX RMMV family is quite widespread globally, with current operators including the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, Denmark, and Ukraine. In total, there are about 20,000 units of vehicles from this family, and their numbers are rapidly increasing.
This popularity makes them even more attractive to potential customers due to standardization and, consequently, the simplification of logistics during possible international operations. Therefore, such a large volume of orders is to be expected.
