The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, is opting for Moscow instead of other partners that could supply gas to his country.
This is how President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to Fico's recent anti-Ukrainian statements.
Zelensky reminded that just a few days ago, US President Donald Trump made a decision that would significantly increase the export of American LNG, particularly to Europe.
“American LNG must be paid for with money, while Russian gas requires not only money but also independence and sovereignty. Many in Europe have already experienced this and have chosen to preserve their independence and sovereignty. But not Mr. Fico. He opts for Moscow instead of America and other partners that can provide his country with gas on commercial terms. This is his mistake. Everyone in Europe needs to be forward-thinking and develop relationships that strengthen our nations,” the president wrote.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in turn, stated that they view Fico's remarks as an attempt to shift responsibility for his own failures in domestic politics onto foreign states and leaders.
“We advise looking not abroad but in the mirror. The Ukrainian side has repeatedly warned about the dangers of the pro-Russian policies of Slovakia's leadership. The result is evident: Robert Fico and certain parliamentary figures in Slovakia have become poisoned by Russian propaganda, have lost the ability to distinguish right from wrong, and now even refer to the leaders of neighboring friendly democracies as 'enemies',” the Ministry noted.
Recall that the day before, Robert Fico criticized Ukraine again for halting the transit of Russian gas and also called Zelensky “an enemy of Slovakia”.
Previously, he stated that the President of Ukraine “travels around Europe begging and blackmailing others.” Fico also threatened to block all decisions concerning Ukraine in the European Union.
