On Tuesday, Ukraine received a $1 billion tranche from Japan and the United Kingdom.
This was reported by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal via Telegram on December 24.
“The tranche was received under guarantees from the governments of these countries as part of the World Bank's DPL program. The funds raised will be directed towards strengthening our economy and financing priority expenditures in the social and humanitarian sectors,” he wrote.
The Ministry of Finance clarified that the tranche consists of $567 million under guarantees from the Japanese government as part of the Targeted Fund for providing necessary credit support to Ukraine (ADVANCE Ukraine) and $483 million under guarantees from the UK government.
“The goal of the DPL project is to support the implementation of reforms in Ukraine. Thus, Ukraine receives the corresponding tranche based on the results of meeting the program's requirements. Achievements have been made for ensuring sustainable growth in customs and tax policy, combating corruption, supporting state enterprises, developing the private sector, and logistics infrastructure,” said Ukraine's Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko.
Recall that today Shmyhal also mentioned that next year external funding of $38 billion is expected. On December 23, Ukraine received a new tranche from the IMF.
