Ukraine is actively integrating artificial intelligence into its drones to ensure high-precision targeting of objectives.
This is reported by Reuters.
It is noted that thanks to such technologies, drones can autonomously locate and hit targets even under conditions of powerful electronic jamming, which limits the effectiveness of manually controlled drones.
“There are already several dozen solutions on the market from Ukrainian manufacturers, and they are being procured and supplied to the army and other defense units,” stated Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for Digital Development Yekaterina Chernogorenko, emphasizing that these systems are used in special operations.
Drones equipped with artificial intelligence assist in overcoming the enemy's electronic defenses, disrupting the communication between the pilot and the drone. In turn, Ukraine also employs drones to intercept Russian reconnaissance aircraft that support artillery shelling. According to Chernogorenko, these interceptor drones also require AI technologies to enhance their effectiveness.
The publication also mentions that the Ukrainian company NORDA Dynamics has already delivered over 15,000 units of software for drone management to the market, enabling drones to autonomously target objectives after the operator selects the target. As stated by the company's COO Dmitry Vovchuk, their system allows for striking protected targets that were previously inefficient to target due to high levels of electronic protection.
It is worth recalling that Deputy Minister of Defense Ivan Havryliuk mentioned that this year it is planned to produce a million FPV drones, over 10,000 strike drones with a medium flight range, and more than a thousand unmanned aerial vehicles with a range of over 1,000 kilometers.
Additionally, it is known that the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Digital Transformation have already contracted 1.8 million drones for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for 147 billion hryvnias. This pertains to the period of 2024-2025.
