Ukraine and the European Union have agreed to increase the capacity for electricity imports during winter to 2.1 GW.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy on Tuesday.
“Starting December 1, the maximum capacity for electricity imports from EU countries will be increased from the current 1.7 to 2.1 GW. This will enhance the resilience of Ukraine's energy system amid criminal Russian shelling and infrastructure destruction,” noted Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
According to him, the need for this significant decision for Ukraine regarding the increase in import capacity was discussed during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in September in Kyiv.
Additionally, it was reported that Ukraine will also have the capacity for guaranteed 250 MW of flows from the EU in emergency assistance mode.
