Президент США Дональд Трамп через несколько часов после инаугурации подписал указ о смертной казни.

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order regarding the death penalty. This mandates the Attorney General to take all necessary and legal actions to ensure that states have an adequate supply of lethal injection drugs to carry out death sentences.

This was reported by AP.

The number of executions worldwide has reached its highest level in nearly a decade – AILast year, 1153 people were executed in 16 countries. This is a third more than in 2022 and the highest figure since 2015.

Trump's order requires the Department of Justice to not only pursue the application of the death penalty in relevant federal cases but also to support the retention of the death penalty in states struggling to maintain sufficient stocks of lethal injection drugs.

The U.S. Attorney General has been instructed to ensure compliance with federal jurisdiction and to seek death sentences "regardless of other factors," particularly in cases involving the murder of law enforcement officers or serious crimes "committed by a foreign national illegally present in this country."

It is expected that Trump will resume federal executions, which were put on hold in 2021 after a moratorium was introduced. Currently, three individuals remain on federal death row: Dylann Roof, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and Robert Bowers.

During Trump's first term, there were 13 federal executions – more than under any other president in modern history.

It is worth noting that in the early hours of his new presidential term, Trump had already signed an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization. He also pardoned participants in the Capitol riot of 2021.

Additionally, the president's order has suspended all foreign aid from the U.S.
