The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, is confident that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will ultimately sign the bill to abolish the transition to daylight saving time.
This opinion was expressed during a briefing on Thursday, October 31, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
"I believe that the President of Ukraine will sign this bill... I see no reason not to sign this bill," said Stefanchuk.
In his view, it would be logical to sign the bill after Ukraine transitioned to winter time at the end of October.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada also reminded that according to conclusions from European scientific institutions, the savings from changing the clock with the existence of modern technologies are "absolutely insignificant".
Recall that on the night of October 27, Ukraine transitioned to winter time – the clocks were set back one hour. This transition was supposed to be the last, as in July the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading the bill "On the Calculation of Time in Ukraine", which provides for the cancellation of the transition to "summer" and "winter" time,
It was signed by the Chairman of the Rada, and on August 21, the document was sent for the President of Ukraine's signature. However, Volodymyr Zelensky has yet to sign it.
Last week, BBC Ukraine reported, citing its sources, that Zelensky will not sign this law.
