Ukraine's request to the United States for Tomahawk missiles and other long-range weaponry was confidential. If this information has indeed leaked to the media, it indicates a lack of confidentiality on the part of the White House.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with media from Northern Europe.
“When many countries began to support Ukraine's 'victory plan,' you see what is happening in the media now? They claimed that Ukraine wants or would like to receive many Tomahawk missiles, etc. But this was confidential information between Ukraine and the White House. How should we understand these reports? It means that there is nothing confidential between partners,” said the president.
Zelensky also added that within the framework of the 'victory plan,' Ukraine requested its international partners to provide a package of long-range weapons. At the same time, Ukraine committed to using it only if Russia does not end the war and cease further escalation.
“I said that this is a preventive measure. I was told that this is escalation,” the president explained.
Recall that this week, The New York Times, citing high-ranking American officials, reported that in the secret part of Volodymyr Zelensky's 'victory plan,' which envisions non-nuclear deterrence against Russia, Ukraine is asking the U.S. for Tomahawk missiles with a range of up to 2500 km.
Previously, Zelensky compared discussions about the 'victory plan' to earlier talks about supplying Ukraine with Patriot or F-16 systems – at first, Western allies refused to do so but later provided assistance.
