There are no longer any religious communities in Lviv region that are subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate.
This was stated by the head of the OVA, Maxim Kozitsky, on Facebook.
According to him, the region was the first in Ukraine to rid itself of all UOC-MP communities. Before the onset of Russian aggression in 2014, there were 66 UOC-MP churches in the region, and as of February 24, 2022, there were 54 such communities.
“During the full-scale invasion, 27 communities joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, and another 27 ceased their activities by their own decision,” Kozitsky reported.
He also urged Moscow Patriarchate communities in other regions not to wait for the implementation of the norms of the Law of Ukraine “On the Protection of the Constitutional Order in the Activities of Religious Organizations,” but to sever ties with Moscow themselves.
Recall that on August 20, the Rada adopted a bill banning the activities of religious organizations associated with Russia in Ukraine.
On August 24, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed this law. Now Ukrainian churches have until June 2025 to sever ties with the MP churches.
