В Румынии Конституционный суд утвердил результаты первого тура президентских выборов. Второй тур состоится 8 декабря между Калином Георгеску и Еленой Ласкони.

The Constitutional Court of Romania has unanimously decided to confirm and approve the results of the first round of the presidential elections. The second round of voting will take place on December 8.

Advancing to the second round are the candidate from the Conservative Party, Kalin Georgescu, and the representative of USR (Save Romania Union), Elena Lasconi.

“In the context of reviewing the constitutionality regarding the adherence to the presidential election procedure in Romania, the effectiveness of the powers enshrined in the Constitution of Romania, and the respect for the popular vote expressed in the first round, the constitutional judges unanimously decided to reject the appeal of candidate Terhes Cristian as unfounded,” stated the head of the court, Marian Enache.

The Constitutional Court unanimously ruled: to confirm and recognize the results of the first round of voting on November 24, 2024, as valid, and to organize the second round of voting on Sunday, December 8.

It is worth noting that the far-right candidate, a critic of the European Union and NATO, Kalin Georgescu received 22.94% of the votes in the first round. Lasconi narrowly surpassed the incumbent Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu.

On November 28, the Constitutional Court unanimously decided to require the Central Election Commission to recount all valid and invalid ballots from the first round.
