The United Kingdom and France are considering the possibility of joining the monitoring of the ceasefire regime in Ukraine if a corresponding agreement is reached. London and Paris are discussing the option of sending their troops to the line of demarcation.
This was reported by Radio Liberty, citing a senior NATO official on the condition of anonymity.
It is noted that representatives of the countries are considering various options to ensure the security of Ukraine if peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow commence and decisions are made to halt hostilities.
According to a NATO representative in a conversation with journalists, one possible scenario that could be proposed to Ukraine and Russia is the deployment of French and British troops "on the line of demarcation to monitor the ceasefire regime that may be achieved as a result of negotiations."
The senior NATO official mentioned that such discussions are taking place only in a few countries and not at the level of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Additionally, the publication notes that Paris and London are attempting to prepare "options for different scenarios" so that if the new administration of the U.S. president raises the issue after Donald Trump's inauguration, there will be proposals on how "European countries might be involved" and ready options to support Ukraine.
Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the possibility of freezing the war if Ukraine is accepted into NATO.
Previously, Reuters reported that Putin allegedly is ready to discuss a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine and the freezing of the war along the front line with Donald Trump.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated before the U.S. elections that Donald Trump would not be able to force Ukraine into possible territorial concessions to end the war.
