Investigators in Ukraine have seized additional assets belonging to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, valued at over 2 billion hryvnias.
This information was reported by the press service of the SBU and the Office of the Prosecutor General.
"Based on the materials from the Security Service of Ukraine, the court has imposed a freeze on a large batch of industrial products and raw materials owned by the sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska," the statement said.
This concerns nearly 500,000 tons of bauxite and alumina, which were produced in Ukraine prior to the full-scale invasion. They were stored at the Nikolaev Alumina Plant, which was previously owned by a Russian national.
The total value of the seized assets amounts to over 2.11 billion UAH, as clarified by the SBU.
This product was a key component for aluminum production at the Russian plants of Oleg Deripaska's "Rusal." According to the case materials, the seized bauxite and alumina belonged to the oligarch through a controlled commercial entity registered in one of the EU countries.
This company acted as the formal purchaser of the products from the Nikolaev plant for subsequent re-export to Deripaska's Russian enterprises. In early 2023, Ukrainian law enforcement uncovered the transaction and blocked the shipment of this raw material. Today, the court has seized the products.
Recall that almost two years ago, the VAKS made a ruling in the case of the confiscation of assets of Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska located on the territory of Ukraine in favor of the state.
In October 2022, President Vladimir Zelensky enacted a decision by the National Security and Defense Council regarding sanctions against Deripaska. In February of last year, the SBU informed Deripaska of suspicion.
