Allies of U.S. President Donald Trump from the Republican party have introduced a bill on the "purchase of Greenland". They are seeking support in the House of Representatives.

This is reported by Reuters. It is noted that the bill has ten co-authors, and its title is "Make Greenland Great Again Act."

If the bill is passed, it would enable the president to commence negotiations with Denmark on January 20, when Trump takes office.

"No later than five calendar days after an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark regarding the purchase of Greenland by the United States, the president must submit the agreement to the relevant congressional committees, including all accompanying materials and appendices," states the draft.

Background

Donald Trump has labeled the acquisition of Greenland as an "absolute necessity" for the U.S.

"For the purposes of national security and freedom worldwide, the United States of America believes that owning and controlling Greenland is an absolute necessity," he declared on his Truth Social page.

Trump, who is set to take office on January 20, has not ruled out the use of military or economic measures to gain control over the island. Previously, he had suggested that Denmark sell Greenland, but the Danish government rejected that proposal.

Following the American leader's announcement of his desire to buy Greenland, Denmark plans to enhance the security of its island.

Why does Trump want an Arctic island that was never put up for sale? Read more in the "Telegraph" article: "Why does Trump want Greenland and can he buy it? You definitely didn't know this about the ice-covered island.".

We remind you that earlier, "Telegraph" reported that Greenland responded to Trump's purchase proposals.
