Countries that are members of the BRICS organization should abandon any thoughts of finding an alternative to the US dollar in international trade. If they attempt to create their own quasi-currency or replace the dollar, the consequences will be swift and unavoidable.
This was stated by the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, on his social network Truth Social. Among other things, he claimed that BRICS countries would face 100% tariffs on all their goods.
"We demand that these countries commit to not creating a new BRICS currency and not supporting any other currency to replace the powerful US dollar; otherwise, they will encounter a 100% tariff and must say goodbye to sales in the thriving US economy,” he wrote.
Trump also advised the proponent of the idea to replace the dollar – known to be actively promoted by Russian leader Vladimir Putin – to "find another sucker," as there is no chance of finding a replacement for the dollar. Any country attempting to do so could "wave goodbye to America."
Previously, "The Telegraph" reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky harshly criticized the UN and the BRICS summit. The BRICS summit took place at the end of October in Russia, during which the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, and several participants made a series of loud statements. They did not shy away from discussing the war in Ukraine and also spoke about "de-dollarization" – Putin has long been dreaming of finding an "alternative" to the US dollar.
It is worth noting that during the meeting, Putin was unable to pronounce the name of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying: "The floor is to President Erdoğanu."
