The current President of the United States, Joseph Biden, announced on December 1 the signing of a decree granting full and unconditional pardon to his son Hunter Biden. Hunter was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm and numerous tax violations; his pardon cannot be revoked by the new U.S. President Donald Trump.
This information was reported by CNN, citing a statement from the White House. The decree from Biden Sr. completely absolves his son of all federal charges that may have pertained to Hunter's activities from 2014 to 2024, including cases of illegal firearm possession and failure to pay taxes.
"Today I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," Biden confirmed.
According to him, the prosecution of Hunter Biden was "selective and unfair," having a clear political bias. Joseph Biden stated that his political opponents in Congress attempted to use the cases against Hunter to damage his father's political reputation, but that has now come to an end. Biden Sr. added that he made the decision not only as president but also as a father, noting that Hunter has suffered enough to deserve a pardon.
Joseph Biden's statement had a controversial effect. Earlier, Biden promised that he would not interfere in the judicial matters concerning his son. However, the White House has now stated that the president concluded that all accusations against his son were politically motivated.
It’s worth mentioning that Hunter Biden himself pleaded guilty to nine tax crimes and was also convicted of illegal possession of a firearm. However, the pardon means that the scheduled court hearings for sentencing will be canceled.
Previously, "Telegraph" reported that President Biden's son, Hunter Biden, pleaded guilty to three charges and reached an agreement with the prosecution. This involves two cases of tax evasion and one case related to the use of a firearm.
It should be noted that U.S. President Joe Biden has experienced many tragedies in his life before becoming a globally recognized political figure. We are accustomed to seeing him positive and smiling, yet it turns out that Biden even had thoughts of suicide. Specifically, he lost his eldest son, Beau Biden, to illness, and his first wife, Neilia, and daughter, Naomi, died in a car accident.
